‘Tenet’ and ‘Mank’: The British Film Awards have already unveiled some of the winning films. Yesterday, April 11, at 7:00 p.m. (British time) the 2021 BAFTAs are held, delivered by the British Academy of Cinematographic and Television Arts. It remains to be seen whether the results of the DGA (issued by the Directors Guild USA) and replicate Nomadland consolidates its position as favorite to the next Oscars held on April 26, but curiously the film ChloĆ© Zhao has interrupted his winning streak in the first categories of the BAFTA. Because yes, the circumstances of the pandemic have led to a few prizes being awarded before the main gala, mostly corresponding to the technical categories.
‘Tenet’ and ‘Mank’ at BAFTA
Sticking to these, the triumph has been for films like Tenet, Mank or The mother of the blues, which has already taken home two golden masks. BAFTA has also emerged as Best animated short film The Owl and the Pussycat and Best short film The Present of Farah Nabulsi, and other awards will be clarified in the coming hours, through an edition to be held telematically. We will check, then, if Nomadland and ChloƩ Zhao are victorious again, in a ceremony that also stands out for the presence of four women nominated for Best Director.
These are Shannon Murphy for The Glorious Chaos of Life , Sarah Gavron for Rocks (BAFTA winner for Best Casting ), Jamila Zbanic for Quo vadis, Aida? and Zhao herself for Nomadland . Until we know more victories, here are the categories already resolved, with the name of the winner in bold.
